Descended by Blood Review Part 2

Descended by Blood Review Part 2

Even though I had problems with everything at the start of the book, I really did enjoy the characters and the story overall. Once the action got started, the pace picked up and I became completely engrossed with the book; I just couldn’t put it down! The writing was excellent and flowed along smoothly which helped me finish this book extremely quickly. The Bad – Some of Jaren’s reactions to certain events in the book were kind of odd; he was ok with one thing happening, but another revelation completely freaks him out. Sorry I can’t go into more detail, I’m sure I’m not making any sense but I don’t want to ruin it for anyone. I think you’ll know what I mean when you read it. The Ugly – The beginning certainly didn’t flow as well as the rest of the book. At one point I wasn’t even sure I’d be able to finish, but luckily that wasn’t too far into the book and of course I did keep reading. Like I said, this book did a complete turn around and I am SO glad I didn’t give up on it based on the first couple of chapters because it ended up being an excellent read.

While I still wasn’t really a huge Jaren fan at that point, it was a good insight into how Brooke felt for him and I could see how deep her feelings ran. In my mind though, he hurt Brooke at least twice and I didn’t feel like he was worthy in the end of her continued feelings for him. Mirko, on the other hand, was more mature, interesting, exciting, and had a great sense of humor. I felt a connection between him and Brooke instantly, and just wanted her to drop Jaren immediately! I understand her hesitation and confusion though, and definitely wouldn’t envy her that position.

Of course there are lots of vampire/paranormal stories out there and they tend to have a lot of the same elements. What I liked about this book is the different story about where vampires originated. And actually in this one, vampire is a derogatory term; born vampires are called Pijawikas and made vampires are called Zao Duhs.

Despite the rocky start, this book turned out to be fantastic! Lots of action, suspense, and romance; something for everyone. I am so thankful I got the chance to read this one and I definitely recommend it!
